Mistake Was Fatal -- Well-Known Woman Took Arsenic Instead of Headache Powder as She Had Intended. Mrs. Louisa Shultz Is Dead.
Mrs. Louisa M. Shultz, 45, wife of Cyrus Shultz, living about seven miles south of the city, died this morning at her home as a result of arsenic poisoning. The arsenic had been taken by mistake. Mrs. Shultz complained of suffering with a headache when she arose this morning and could scarcely look after her household duties on account of her suffering. About 10 o'clock, she when to the sideboard to get some headache powder from an envelope.
Soon after taking a dose, she complained of feeling very ill. She seemed to realize that she had made a mistake and told the members of her family that she was afraid she might have taken arsenic instead of the medicine. Dr. Garrison, of Perkinsville, was summoned by telephone and hastened to the Shultz home. He arrived too late to be of assistance. Mrs. Shultz had been carried into the yard and was given all attention, the usual treatment suggested in poisoning cases being used but without effect.
Deputy Coroner Winings was called this morning and took charge of the body. The inquest in which the coroner of that county will be in charge will show the facts to be as above stated.
Mrs. Shultz was a splendid woman and one of the most respected neighbors in the community in which she resided. The husband and six children survive. She was the sister of Mrs. Elmer Cox, of North A Street this city.
The arrangements for the funeral had not been made this afternoon, according to the statement of Mr. Winings, who telephoned from the county at 3 o'clock.
