James Alexander Chronister born 17 Jul 1822 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri was the seventh child second son of Daniel and Mary Polly Duncan Chronister who had ten known children. Age 19 he married Winnie Matthews 1 Jun 1842 in Newton, Jasper, Missouri. They had ten known children between 1843 and 1863.
2 Sep 1863 age 41 James Alexander and second son George Washington age 18 joined the Union Army on 9 Feb 1863 in Warren, Arkansas enlisted as privates into Company A 2nd Arkansas Regiment.
8 Sep 1863 age 41 the tenth and last child Amanda D E Chronister is born in Reynolds, Missouri.
15 Dec 1863 second son George Washington Chronister age 18 who had enlisted with his father James Alexander is killed in a guerrilla action by Confederate Forces near Ludwig, Johnson, Arkansas. George was buried in Minnow Creek Cemetery.
1 Jan 1864 First son James Daniel Chronister age 20 enlisted 1 Jan 1864 in Company B, Arkansas 2nd Infantry Regiment of the Union Army.
5 Mar 1864 age 41 James Alexander and some men were sent out for scout duty along Mulberry River approximately twenty miles north of Clarksville, Arkansas. He was absent for a day or so on the slopes of Mulberry Mountain.
7 Mar 1864 he was found sick with pneumonia and was carried to a Mr. Robinsonís home were he died. A detail of men where sent out to bury the body. These men were Thomas Bean, Harry Jacobs, and Hugh Bean. They came back to camp and reported to their Captain that they had buried the body but did not report where.
26 Mar 1864 at age 21 years old James Daniel Chronister is killed in action at Clarksville, Johnson, Arkansas.
