John R. Hunter Sr., 85, of Hunter Road, Beallsville, died Friday, July 16, at his home. He was the husband of Sadie Dye Hunter, his wife of 59 years.
Born Nov. 30, 1913, in Beallsville, he was a son of the late William Pierce and Mattie Littlefield Hunter.
Mr. Hunter was a lifelong farmer in Montgomery County and a charter member of the Monocacy Lions Club.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, John R. Hunter Jr. and wife Jane of Beallsville; two grandchildren, James R. Hunter of Barnesville, and Anne L. Hunter of Frederick; and one nephew, William Peerce Hunter of Silver Spring.
Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by one brother, William P. Hunter.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at the home of John and Jane Hunter, 20400 W. Hunter Road, Beallsville.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 19, at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Md. 109), Barnesville. The Rev. George Reid, pastor emeritus of St. Mary's, Barnesville, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702.
