Buckinghamshire, England
Death: Feb. 14, 1995

British Artist. He studied art at Chelsea Polytechnic from 1936 under Harold Williamson and Raymond Coxon. His studies were interrupted by World War II, when he served with the Royal Armoured Corps. He was elected a member of the Royal Academy in 1969 and was treasurer from 1976 to 1984. He became president in 1984, serving until 1993. He was knighted in 1991 and the Royal Academy held a memorial show of his work after his death. (bio by: js)
