Gladys Price Forgety, of Strawberry Plains, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, in Knoxville.
Born June 20, 1918, in the Greenbriar Community of Sevier County, she was preceded in death by her husband, Telford E. Forgety Sr.; one granddaughter, Brandy Maples; her parents, Lee and Ola Branam Price; two sisters, Ruth Corbett and Blanche Doyle; and one brother, Earl Price. She graduated from Maury High School in Dandridge and Carson-Newman College. She began her teaching career at the Oakland School in Jefferson County, then taught many years in the Knox County School System, retiring with 26 years of service.
She was an active and well-loved member of Trentville United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and participating in all church activities for more than 45 years. She loved her church and often provided transportation to elderly members. She was also a member of the Mascot Home Demonstration Club. She loved to travel, play canasta, to connect with other people and to cook for her family. She will be sorely missed.
Survivors include five children and their spouses, Linda and Melvin Phipps of Dandridge, John and Faye Forgety of Athens, Telford Jr. and Vickie Forgety of New Market, Alice Forgety and Bruce Clay of Raleigh, N.C., and Laura and Danny Boring of Knoxville; grandchildren and spouses, Scott Phipps, Kasey and Jamie Abart, Lee and Amanda Phipps, Telford "Trey" Forgety III and Shea Forgety; two great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Clyde and Ida Price and Charles Price; one sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and E.C. Dearing; one sister-in-law, Helen Forgety Travis; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be Wednesday evening at the Farrar Funeral Home Jefferson City Chapel with the Rev. Charles David Frazier and the Rev. Jim Whedbee officiating. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Dandridge.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Tennessee Foundation, Brandy Maples Memorial Scholarship Fund, 625 Market St., Suite 1400, Knoxville TN 37902.
