The son of GEORGE & KATHERINE (PINN) WHEELER, he married SARAH LARKIN on March 25, 1663 in Concord.
In 1664 John was one of the "persons with estate" who signed the Pledge to Assist in Maintaining the Charter. He served in the Narraganset Expedition of 1675 (for this his son, Ebenezer, was granted land after his death in 1735). He was made a freeman on March 21, 1690.
The will of his father, dated July 2, 1687, bequeathed considerable estate to his son, John which included: 14 acres in the south field from John Mill's pasture to the South River, six acres joining John Pane southwest from Mount Taber, four acres in the meadow on the northwest side of Brooke's pasture, and 10 pounds out of the movable estate. John also received jointly with his brother, Thomas, the following from their father's estate: eight acres by the east line, the meadow called great meadow, eight acres of woodland, and their father's mansion, barn, and orchard. Note: Thomas Wheeler, son of George, died the same year as his father. It is unknown whether he had heirs.

Inventory of above Thomas Wheeler deceased intestate, subscribed by Hannah Wheeler and Thomas Wheeler, 21 Sept. 1687. Total 285 pounds, 0 shillings and 2 pence. Due from estate to John Smedley, John Miles, Peter Buckly Esqr., Nathaniell Harwood, John Heywood Senr. Appraisers, John Smedley Junr, Stephen Hoosmer.
On 21 Oct 1713 (also entered as twelfth year of the reign of Queen Anne, who came to the throne in 1702), an agreement was made among the heirs of John Wheeler to settle the estate. The widow, Sarah, made her mark, and the children signing were Samuel, Edward, Ebenezer and Timothy. On behalf of their wives, the following signed: William Woodbury, John Meriam, Samuel Prescott, Jonas Prescott, and John Meriam, Jr. Witnesses were John Heywood and Joseph Dakin.
