Birth: Aug. 18, 1808
New Jersey, USA
Death: Mar. 21, 1888
Iowa, USA

I have seen another record stating he was born in New York.

Elijah and Lydia (Belles) Clark had 10 children;
*John
*Mercy
*Byron
Susan b. 15 Sep 1841, married John Daskham
*Ralph
*Emma
*William
Margaret married William Hammond
Clara married Addison Bark
Antionette

I am, at this time, a bit confused about the youngest, Antionette. Have seen her name spelled differently and there is a stone for someone with the name buried at age 11 in an Iowa cemetery.

Elijah Clark obituary

Elijah Clark at his residence in Fremont township March 21, 1888. Elijah Clark aged 79 years, 7 months and 4 days.
The deceased was born in the state of New Jersey and removed to Canada while a young man. There in 1833 he married Lydia Bellows. In 1853 they immigrated to Winneshiek County, Iowa being among the first settlers where he has since lived honored and respected by all.

Six daughters and four sons were born to them of whom survive him, and live near – a help and comfort in his last illness.
He was for many years a great Asthmatic sufferer but recovered and during the past ten or fifteen years enjoyed the blessings of a happy and contended old age until a few months ago he was prostrated but rallied when again on the 17th first he was prostrated with such severity that in a few days he passed calmly away to that borne from whence none ever return and we only know that he is gone.

CLARK
At his home in Winneshiek county Wednesday March 21, Mr. Elijah Clark in the eightieth year of his age.
Mr. Clark was born in New Jersey and came to Winneshiek county, about thirty five years ago. He was the father of four sons and six daughters all of whom were present at their father’s funeral.
Mr. Clark was a man of many fine qualities of mind and heart and was trusted and honored by all who knew him. A large concourse of friends and relatives followed his remains to their last resting place.
Born August 18, 1808 New Jersey and died March 21, 1888 in Kendallville, Winneshiek county, Iowa.

My great Grandmother Almeda (Schofield) Clark of Cresco, Iowa had collected family obituaries.
