Thomas was the son of Thomas Staunton & Mary Pudsey. He was born abt. 1585, at Wolverton Hall, Warwickshire, England.

He married Katherine Washington at Holy Trinity church, Stratford-upon-Avon, July 30, 1616. She was the daughter of Walter Washington, a great-uncle of President George Washington.

His son Thomas Stanton Sailed to America in 1635.

Thomas Staunton was a well known sculptor of the time. Among his works, the well known bust of Wm. Shakespeare, which is described in Washington Irving's 'Sketch Book'.

Thomas claimed ancestry to Sir Malgerus de Staunton, who, in 1084, successfully defended against William the Conqueror, a castle called Staunton Tower, which was located seven miles south of Newark-on-Trent, in Nottinghamshire.
