Olive Mayclin Coon, who passed away Friday morning, December 23, 1955, at the home of her daughter in Storm Lake, was one of five children born to James and Anna Howard Mayclin, on August 28, 1884, near Early, Sac Co., Iowa. She lived there a short time until she moved with her parents to a farm near Sac City. There she spent her childhood and attended school and helped her parents until her marriage on September 28, 1900, to John Alva Coon. The couple first made their home south of Correctionville but after a year moved to town and have lived there almost continuously ever since, except for two short periods when they took up residence in California. Her husband having lived most of his life here, and their long residence here together, makes them one of the older families of the community. Seven children were born to this union, two dying at birth, but five surviving per passing with their father: Mrs. J.W. (Ferne) Scothorn of Storm Lake, Ellis Coon of Sheldon, Mrs. J.K. (Mildred) Ward of Holland, Michigan, Wayne Coon of El Segundo, California, and Gene Coon of Sheldon. She is also survived by a brother, Howard Mayclin of Sac City, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, the Little Sioux Rebekah Lodge #434, a charter member of the J.A.D.'s and a member of the Correctionville Methodist church. Services were held in the Methodist Church Monday afternoon in charge of Rev. C.Q. Wallace. Burial was in the Correctionville Cemetery under direction of Wilson-Hull Funeral Home.
