Jack Johnson, Jr., age 83, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at the Veteran's Nursing Home in Oxford, MS.
He was born on January 21, 1925, to Julian and Hedwig Johnson, Sr. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, MS where he was an elder of the church.
Mr. Johnson became president of Johnson Implement Co. in 1954 upon the death of his father and he retired as president in 1997. He served as president of Greenwood Leflore Chamber of Commerce in 1964. Mr. Johnson was a past president of the Mid South Farm Equipment Dealers Association as well as Director of the National Farm Equipment Dealers Association. He was a longtime director of the Leflore County Boys and Girls Club. He was a longtime member of the Greenwood Investment Club. He was very civic minded and active in Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the director and served on the Executive Committee of Sunburst Bank which is now Regions Bank. Mr. Johnson was an avid golfer, an accomplished Artist, and very devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today from 1:30 pm to 3 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood. Funeral Services will be held today at 3 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, MS. Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
He is survived by spouse, Merrel Parker Johnson of Greenwood, MS; son, Jack Johnson III of Greenwood, MS; son, Parker Johnson of Greenwood, MS; daughter, Merrel Johnson Wood of Greenwood, MS. Grandchild, Henry Parker Johnson of Winston Salem, NC. Grandchild, Martha Boswell Brock of Oxford, MS. Grandchild, Merrell Boswell Patridge of Olive Branch, MS; grandchild, Mary Lindsey Johnson of Greenwood, MS; and grandchild, Albert Austin of Nashville, TN.
Pallbearers will be Harris Powers, Jr., John Pittman, Bob Gregory, Allen Mize, Mickey Black, William Leflore, David Hicks Jr., Mike Engle, Jr., and Sam Fonda.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Pillow, W.G. Mize, T.U. Black, Jr., Bob Hardeman, Jimmy D. Kimbrell, Jack Williams, and David Hicks.
Memorials may be made to the Leflore County Boys and Girls Club or St. Jude Children Hospital.
