Belle was the daughter of Henry Banks & Mary Ann Robinson Meacham. Belle's parents sold their Collierville farm shortly after the start of the Civil War and moved to now Tate Co, MS.

In 1866 her father purchased 400 acres near Senatobia. The deed describes the land as being located [using present day landmarks] west of Hwy 51, from NWCC to Merry Hill Ranch Road.

Her parents are reported in "Meachams, Mitcham, Mitchum Families of the South" as having died in Indian Bay, AR - one on Aug 20, 1874 and the other on Aug 26, 1874. Belle age 15 and her sister, Bettie, age 18 were left orphaned with five younger brothers. The youngest brother was less than two years old. The orphaned children were eventually able to return to Tate Co, MS.

Her youngest brother, Banks, graduated from Harvard University and became a medical doctor. The next to youngest brother, Henry Clay, became Mayor of Ft. Worth, TX.
