Accidental Fall Takes Life of Afton Woman Funeral services for Eliza Pearl Hale Michaelson of Afton were held Tuesday, Sept 4 in the Afton Second-Third Ward Chapel with Counselor Lynn M. Nield of the Third Ward Bishopric conducting. Mrs Michaelson died Friday, Aug 31 about 7:15 p.m. in the Star valley LDS Hospital, following an accidental fall two hours earlier. Her death occurred just five hours before her 71st birthday. Interment was in the Afton Cemetery. Eliza Pearl Hale Michaelson was born Sept 1, 1891, at Afton, Untia County, Wyo., the daughter of Aroet Lucius Hale III and Eliza Ellen L. Yeaman. She was the oldest child in a family of nine---six brothers and two sisters. Her parents, three brothers and one sister have preceded her in death. During her childhood Pearl lived in Afton and helped her father on a small ranch and also with his freighting. The eighth grade completed her formal education. After finishing school, she worked at the Cottage Hotel and as a telephone operator until her marriage. During her teens, she was secretary in the MIA and a teacher in primary in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Pearl loved life and enjoyed her youth to the fullest. She loved to dance. On Oct 5, 1910 she married Joseph Michaelson in the Salt Lake Temple. To this union seven children were born. In 1911they bought a farm northwest of Afton and built their home. Here Pearl lived the rest of her life. For 15 years Mrs Michaelson served as second counselor of the Afton North Ward Relief Society serving others with little thought of herself. She has been a relief society visiting teacher since 1921. Mrs Michaelson was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Afton and for the past four years she has served as the DUP County Registrar. In the fall of 1960 Mr and Mrs Michaelson celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. All of their family was present. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; seven sons and daughters, Mrs Delos (Maurine) Anderson, Grover; Mrs Vern A (Bernice) Wolfley, Phoenix Ariz.; Willis J. Michaelson, Salt Lake City, Utah; Bp. Millard H. Michaelson, Ogden, Utah; Mrs John A. (Helen) Stevens, Byron, Wyo.; Mrs Jay (LaNea) Schofield, Blackfoot, Idah0; and Mrs Harold (Eva) Bateman, Bedford; 23 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; three brothers--LeRoy and Walter Hale, Denver, Colo.; and Everett Hale, Afton; and one sister Mrs C.S. (Myrtle) Wray of Afton. While she lived she lived for others. A faithful companion to her husband, A loving mother to her children, And a friend for all.
