Loyola I. Griego, 77, Arroyo Seco, died Dec. 11, 2008 at her home.

Mrs. Griego was born Aug. 25, 1931 in La Madera to Daniel and Carlota Lovato.

She grew up in La Madera and graduated from Ojo Caliente High School in 1951. She attended college and studied to be a nurse.

Mrs. Griego married Herman Griego Dec. 31, 1955. She worked as a nurse at Española Hospital until 1971, when she decided to stay home and raise her family and later helped to raise some of her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Mrs. Griego is survived by her husband, Herman; sisters, Sara Manzanares, Albuquerque; Stella Gomez, El Rancho; Zella Martinez, Leadville, Colo. and brother Daniel Lovato, Farmington; children, Chester, Española; Lester, Pojoaque; Ramona, Leadville, Colo.; LaHoma, Española; Leslie, Española and Loyola, Santa Fe and grandaughter Samantha Griego, who she raised as her own; 14 other grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A rosary and funeral services were held Dec. 15 at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe church in Pojoaque with Stephanie Lovato delivering the eulogy address. Burial followed at the La Madera Cemetery.

Serving as pall bearers were Harold Gomez, Daniel Griego, William Griego, Joshua Griego, Bob Gutierrez and Jason Suazo. Honorary pall bearers were Cyrus Suazo, Randy Longpre, Dominick Maestas and Ray Tapia.
