ANNA M. CROSS
ST. ALBANS / SWANTON - Miss Anna M. Cross died Friday afternoon, Dec. 8, 2006, 13 days before her 102nd birthday, in the Northwestern Medical Center.
Anna was born Dec. 21, 1904, daughter of the late Louis and Rosanna (Bovat) Cross.
Anna attended Holy Angels School with two years commercial business school. She was employed as a secretary at Central Vermont Railway for a few years, and then decided to pursue her true passion and opened a clothing store for women and children. In the early 1940?s Anna opened her first shop, Ann's Ladies and Children Shop on Lake Street. She later moved to Main Street, near the post office, with just a Children?s Shop. Having been in business for over 50 years, Anna enjoyed travels that the business allowed her to do for buying trips. Never having children of her own, she loved working at her shop and spending time with the local children.
Anna was a lifelong member of the St. Albans Chamber of Commerce, a 79-year member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Mary, a 38-year member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 321, a lifetime member of the Franklin County Business and Professional Women and a lifelong devoted communicant of Holy Angels Church.
Anna is survived by her sister-in-law, Emily Cross of St. Albans; special nieces, Nancy Paquette, Jeannette Cadieux, Pat Parah; a great-niece, Angela Paquette-Freemantle; and great-great-niece and nephew, Kyra Paquette-Wiley, who she loved dearly, and James Freemantle who both visited and loved their great-great-Aunt dearly. During her last years, Anna was cared for by a very special caretaker, Wendy Campbell, who dedicated herself to Anna and loved her as her own family. God bless you Wendy. Anna is also survived by several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Anna was the last surviving sibling in the Cross family, which consisted of 10 children. She is predeceased by her seven brothers, Adelard, Rodolphe, Felix, Francis (her baby brother who died in Anna?s arms), Leonard, Augustine, and Paul Cross; and her sisters, Donelda M. King and Geraldine Lawrence.
Special thanks to the members of the Missisquoi Valley Rescue, who cared for Anna during her final years, when she was in need and also thank you to the staff of Swanton Rexall, who always went above and beyond for their customers and were especially good to Anna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 7 to 9 Monday evening. Interment will be in the Cross family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
