A funeral service will be held in the Erickson & Brown
Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 4:00
p.m. for Taft resident, George Arthur Vossen, 59. George passed away at his home in Taft on December 19, 2008 due
to a long battle with cancer. He was born in St. Clair, Michigan on February 12, 1949 to Robert and Irene Vossen. He has three sister, Roberta, Joan and Jean.

They moved to Tacoma, Washington with their step-father, Gene Fisher, Sr. where George attended grade school and later moved to Seattle, Washington where he graduated from Mount Rainier High School in 1968. George was blessed with two new brothers around this time, Mike Fisher and Gene Fisher, Jr. George joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam Conflict. After his honorable discharge he worked at the Olympic Bowl with his father. Later he went to work at Bethlehem Steel, where he met Jean Sharon Verwolf, who had two sons. Later they married in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1977. George and Jean was blessed with a son, George Harry Vossen, born in Seattle Washington. In 1977 they moved to Bakersfield and later to Taft where he worked at IT Corporation, where he started out as a tire man. George advanced to vacuum truck driver and spent several years driving for them. George moved his family to Bozeman, Montana where he worked in a salvage yard for several years. He later moved back to Fellows with his sister and went to work for Pick Up Salvage in Bakersfield. There he made many dear friends along with Debbie McDonald who he spent the next eight years with. George then moved back to Taft with his sister when he became ill. He loved to build computers and watch the car races. George is preceded in death by his father, Gene Fisher, Sr. in November 1989 in Taft; his wife, Jean Sharon Vossen on December 7, 2002 in Bozeman, Montana; his girlfriend, Debbie McDonald on May 8, 2007 in Bakersfield; his sister, Jean Wells on July 10, 2008 in South Carolina; his brother-in-law, Bill Wells on May 1, 2005 in Nashville, Tennessee; and by his brother-in-law, Harry Gross on July 12, 2006 in Fellows. George is survived by his son, George
Harry Vossen on Bozeman, Montana; granddaughter, Angie Vossen of Taft; Kenneth Vossen, Michael Vossen and his boys,
Mike and Matthew Vossen of Taft; his sister, Roberta and her
husband, Jerry Ballard , and their children, Jerry Ballard, Jr., his children, BreAnn and Brandon Ballard of Pueblo, Colorado, Irene Ballard of Renton, Washington, her children, Jessica of Oregon, Jerrica of Federal Way Washington, Don Ballard and his wife, Julie from Soap Lake, Washington; his sister, Joan Gross of Taft, her girls, Robyn and Kristine and her husband, Shawn Shelley of Taft, their children, Destiny and Dakota also to Taft; his mother, Irene Fisher of Taft; Mike Fisher and his wife, Susan and their children, Charissia of Taft, Morissia of Bakersfield; Gene Fisher and his wife, Nancy of Taft. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home. Interment will be at Washington Memorial Cemetery in Seattle, Washington. The family would like to thank Kate at KMC and Hospice staff Kitty Shinn and Betty for their much needed help.
