Bessie Hanks was born in Virginia, the daughter of John and Eliza Humphries. She married Charles Lewis Hanks on August 28, 1887 by Rev. Jacob Bear in Boiling Springs, Macon Co., IL.

MRS. BESSIE HANKS--Mrs. Bessie Hanks of 439 East Johnson avenue, widow of C. L. Hanks, died at 7:45 o'clock Friday night at St. Mary's hospital. She was sixty-six years old last February. Her death was caused by a complication of diseases and followed an illness of three weeks. Mrs. Hanks' maiden name was Bessie Humphrey. She was born in Virginia Feb. 2 1861. She had made her home in Macon county for over forty years and for the last twenty years lived in Decatur. She was a member of the Church of God. She is survived by one son, Adrian L. Hanks of Decatur. The body was taken to L. A. Monson, funeral director, and prepared for burial. The funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Monson chapel. The burial will be in the Boiling Springs cemetery.
