Mary Amanda was the sixth daughter and seventh of eleven children born to Jonathan DeWeese (1785-1840) and his wife Margaret Boyd Irvin (c. 1793-1865). Her paternal grandparents were Hezekiah DeWeese (1760-1839), a Soldier of the Revolution, and his wife Annis Trickey. Her maternal grandparents may have been John Irvin and Margaret Young, but I am not sure about that.

Mary Amanda married William Reeves Wilkinson (c.1816-1850s) on 10 June 1841 (bond date) in Mecklenburg Co., NC. They had six children, Edward Wilkinson (born & died 1842), William H. Wilkinson (1843-1910, went to Tennessee), Julia Wilkinson (1844-1887, Mrs. Henry Micheal Winecoff), Mary Adeline Wilkinson (1846-1906, Mrs. John Andrew Field), John Marion Wilkinson (1848-aft. 1910, went to Texas) and Margaret Wilkinson (c.1850).

Around 1845, the family moved from Mecklenburg County to McDowell County, to the newly founded town of Marion, NC. There, Mary Amanda became a member of the newly founded First Presbyterian Church of Marion. I expect that one of the founders of the church, Adolphus Lorenzo Erwin (1789-1855), was a kinsman of her mother's, and that is why they came to Marion. I presume Mary Amanda died there, but as yet I have not found where she is buried.
