Ruby Nichols Baker died Saturday in Shawnee. She was 81. She was born October 13, 1918, in Shawnee to Henry Ernest and Cora Bell Parsons Nichols. She married Leonard Baker in 1937.

She attended Bethel Schools. She was reared in the Bethel area. She lived in California for many years and returned to Pottawatomie County in 1992.

She worked for Sears for more than 20 years. She had most recently worked as an office manager for Bill Nichols Waterproofing. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Bob Baker and Jerry Baker, one grandson, Scott Baker and six brothers Joe, Cletus, Cecil, Roy, J. D. and Jack.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Carol Baker of Longview, Washington, numerous grandchildren, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold "Rusty" and Dorothy Nichols of Portland, Oregon, Howard Nichols of Clinton, Bill and Linda Nichols of Shawnee and Janet Nichols of Shawnee and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Fletcher, Bethel United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
