Benjamin Watrous arrived in California on 6 August 1850 and mined for gold in the Mother Lode, first residing in Chinese Camp. In 1863 he returned to Massachusetts to marry Ellen Maria Goff. In 1870 they moved to Stockton to a home that Benjamin had built at 432 South Union Street & lived there the balance of his life. He was a livestock broker and owned land throughout the Central Valley, including in the Rosedale Colony area in the south Central Valley.
