Yancey Co,
Mr Bettis Dear Sir.

I now take the opportunity of writing you a few lines concerning our pention claim. I can inform you that the err was in myself as to the dates of my Fathers death, for it was actuly on the 2nd day of June 1853. how come the mistake? the old man had moved to Madison Co,NC a few years before his death. I have got the affadavits of Sidney Young and wife who attneded daily on the old man in all his sicknefs until his death. I have also got the certificate of James C. Howel, justice of the peace of my county,; and if you think this proof is not sufficient, write quick to me and let me know, for I can go into Madison Co. and git any amount of proof you want. But it would put me to right-smat of troble for I would have to get their County Seal to it, and if you send this proof on to the city of Washington, write to me when ever you git answer.
We have such frozen bad traveling in our county that I delayed for sometime gitting the proof that I have got.

This from your friend James Green Admin of John Green
