Howard (Pete) Murphy, 89, of Hamburg died Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village. Mr. Murphy was a native of Crossett; a resident of the Milo Community outside of Hamburg since 1975 and a former resident of Arlington, Texas for a number of years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. He was a carpenter and a member of the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; George and Sally Maxwell Murphy; four brothers, Hugh, Bob, Charlie and Fred Murphy and three sisters, Laura Clark, Elene Honeycut and Thelma Daniels.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Merle Pennington Murphy of Hamburg; two daughters, Becky Powell of Diana, Texas and Shirley Fenn and husband, Melvin, of Alvarado, Texas; two brothers, Dick Murphy of Crossett and Ben Murphy of Hamburg; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Egypt Cemetery. Pallbearers are Steve Bruns, Gerry Rodgers, Ronnie Rodgers, Bruce Pennington, Don Pennington and Jimmy Craig. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Boseman, Eddie Black, Ronnie Tippen, Mickey Pennington, Connie Pennington LeFreda Johnson, Kenneth Moran and Garner Hancock.
