John Thomas Morgan Goodnight, 50, passed away at home, Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, joining his beloved father for eternity.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Thompson's Harveson and Cole Funeral Home.
Memorials: If desired, John's memory may be honored by a donation to a favorite charity or the Madison Goodnight Scholarship Fund. Donations to the Madison Goodnight Scholarship Fund may be made at any Chase Bank in care of Madison Goodnight.
John was born July 30, 1957, in Waco and later moved to Fort Worth with his family in 1959. He graduated from Richland High School in 1975 and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1975 through 1979, when he was honorably discharged. After the Navy, he attended Tarrant County Junior College and graduated from Texas Wesleyan University, earning a bachelor of business administration.
John enjoyed a career in retail sales and financial services and was actively involved in organizations devoted to drug rehabilitation, serving in various capacities at the local and state level. In his off hours he was an avid cyclist and devoted many hours helping to provide bicycles for underprivileged children. He was recognized by the mayor of Fort Worth for his efforts. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
John was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Maurice Goodnight; stepfather, Gerald Erickson Earl; maternal grandparents, Opha and Marion Williamson; and his paternal grandfather, Carl Goodnight.
Survivors: His daughter, Madison Renae Goodnight and her mother, Margaret; mother, JoAn Goodnight Earl; paternal grandmother, Lorene Goodnight; brothers, Mark Goodnight, Michael Earl, Matthew Goodnight and Brian Earl; a multitude of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends, all of whom loved him dearly.
