PEARL ELVIA "BUD" MCVEY

Knoxville, Iowa

PEARL ELVIA "BUD" MCVEY was born December 23, 1927 in Osceola, Iowa, the son of PEARL MARVIN MCVEY and RUTH{GORDON} MCVEY.

BUD was raised in Osceola, Iowa, and served in the US ARMY during WORLD WAR II.

On February 8, 1948 BUD was united in marriage to GOLDIE ALLEN, in Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in Des Moines, Iowa, all their married lives, with the exception of three years, in Seattle, Washington.

BUD worked for Iowa Casket Company for several years.

BUD's career was spent protecting and serving his fellowman as a POLICE OFFICER for the City of DES MOINES POLICE DEPARTMENT, from 1948 to 1983. Through the years BUD worked as a Patrolman, Detective and retired from the Vice-Squad.

Following BUD's retirement from the DES MOINES POLICE DEPARTMENT, he became a FEDERAL MARSHALL for six years.

In his spare time, BUD enjoyed building furniture and other woodworking, remodeling his home, and fishing. He also loved his dog, CLEO.

BUD's greatest joy was his family, and he was especially proud of his great-grandson CODY, WHO IS CURRENTLY SERVING IN IRAQ. BUD will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

BUD was a member of the Retired Policeman's Association, the AMVETS and the V.F.W.

BUD passed away on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center at the age of 80 years.

BUD has been cremated and graveside military services will be held at THE IOWA VERTERAN'S CEMETERY, in Van Meter, Dallas County, Iowa, Friday, April 17th, 2009.

GRAVESIDE SERVICES for PEARL "Bud" McVey, age 80, of Des Moines, Iowa, will be held on Friday April 17th, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the IOWA VETERAN'S CEMETERY in Van Meter, Iowa. MILITARY and POLICE HONORS will be accorded at the cemetery.

A reception will follow at the home of David McVey, 2928 Brattleboro Ave., Des Moines, Iowa.

** BUD is survived by:
* his wife, Goldie of Des Moines;
* two sons, David (Sue) of Des Moines and Larry (Dorothy) of Seattle, Washington;
* ten grandchildren;
* three step-grandchildren;
* 13 great-grandchildren;
* four sisters: Frances Shank of Des Moines, May Gilson of Knoxville, Wanda Kern and Anna Jane;
* half-brother, Royal McVey of Des Moines, Iowa.


For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Knoxville V.A. Hospital.

Friday, April 17th, 2009 is the ceremony at IOWA VETERAN'S CEMETERY,but you are already on the other~side, doing a bit of recon before settling in.I can only imagine all the relatives, ancestors and friends that were on hand to welcome you. GOD BLESS.
