Body of Hartman Resident Found at Base of Cliff

Clarksville - Dec 9 - Marcus

Jim Acord, 71, of Hartman (Johnson County) was found dead today at the base of a 40-foot rock cliff three miles from his home, Deputy Prosecutor Marvin Holman said.

The body was found by R. L. Wilson, whose dog led him to it. A doctor said Acord died of exposure about 48 hours [abt December 7] before he was found . He also had a broken back, several broken ribs, and a fractured skull, suggesting that he might have fallen off the cliff.

Acord's family said he had been gone three days but they hadn't been alarmed because he had told them he was going to Little Rock. They had no idea what he was doing in the area of the cliff. There is no road or path in the area.

It has been raining and the temperatures have been in the 30s and 40s in the Harman area the past three days.

Survivors include three sons, Dewey Acord and Conley Acord, both of Hartman, and Roy Acord of Deweyville, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Collins of Santa Clara, Cal., and Mrs. Noah Tong of Clarksville, and 22 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are by Hardwicke Funeral Service.
