John Donald Elliott, Jr., age 66, of Russellville, died Friday, April 26, 2002, at his home. A son of the late John Donald and Clara Estelle Smith Elliott, he was born November 30, 1935, in Washington, DC.
Survivors include his wife, Belva Elliott; three sons, Kenneth Elliott of Helena, Vincent Elliott of Marion, Illinois and Richard Elliott of Russellville; a daughter, Brenda McWhorter, of Russellville; a brother, Carroll Elliott, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and three grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, served in the United States Air Force, a life member of the Pope County Marine Rescue, a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, a state commissioner of the Scottish Clan Elliott of Arkansas, a volunteer at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, a member of the Butterfield Express Band and a part of the 17th Arkansas Regimental Hospital Re-enactors. He was a former police officer for Russellville Police Department, Pope County Sheriff's Office and Dothan, Alabama Police Department. He was a former EMT for Pope County EMS, a former manager for the Arkansas Tech University football team and worked for the National Park Service in Washington, DC as a Park Ranger.
Funeral service is 10 A.M., Wednesday, at Shinn Chapel with Rev. Tom Walker officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery, near Pottsville, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Pallbearers are members of the Confederate Re-enactors. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Sparks, Boyd Sparks, Dr. James Smith and H. L. Shepherd.
