Ralph E. Acord Sr.

Ralph E. Acord Sr., 72, Kokomo, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Howard Regional Health System.
He was born April 9, 1934, in Charter Oak, Mo., the son of William H. and Mary F. Acord. In November 1958 in Kokomo, he married Martha Acord, who survives.
He was a furnace operator at Delco Electronics and retired in 1983 after 30 years of service.
He served in the Army, and was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church. In the ?70s, he coached little league for Taylor Southeast in Indian Heights. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, being outdoors, watching his grandchildren play sports, and going for rides with his dog Libby. He also enjoyed his job selling fruits and vegetables around in Kokomo.
He cared for his wife all the way up to his death.
Surviving are three sons, Steve Acord, Kokomo, Ralph E. ?Gene? Acord Jr., Kokomo, and Roger and Lori Acord, Kokomo; a stepson, Don and Virginia Etherington, Kokomo; two brothers, Clifford and Linda Acord, Kempton, Glenn ?Jack? Acord, Fortville; one sister, Belinda ?Betty? and J.B. Jones, Kokomo; four grandchildren, Heather Acord, Mandy Acord, Cole Acord and Braylee Acord, all of Kokomo; two stepgrandchildren, Kyle and Chris Etherington, both of Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Sue Acord; a daughter-in-law, Julie Acord; and his parents.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary, Main Street Chapel 725 S. Main St., with the Rev. Paul Enochs officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Christian Church.
