Mr. William James Michaud, 80 of 11 Marie Street, Massena, died Monday (October 27, 2008) afternoon at his home after a struggle with cancer.

He was born June 3, 1928 in Massena the son of George and Melinda Vania Michaud. He attended Louisville Schools. He was a private in the US Army from 1950 until 1952 serving in Germany. He married Beverly Durant on December 31, 1948 at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Michael Jarecki, officiating.

William first worked on the family farm. He then went to work at Alcoa, where he was a foreman in the carbon plant retiring in 1978 after 32 years of service.

He was a communicant of the Church of the Sacred Heart and Life Member of the Earl J. Santimaw VFW Post #1143. He was also a former member of the Eskimo Travel Trailer Club for 27 years. He enjoyed camping, gardening, and word-working, having made several pieces of furniture.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Leslie; brothers, Winter Haven, Florida; five grandsons and their spouses, Timothy Brothers, Thomas Brothers, Joseph and Karena Russo, Christopher and Deborah Dailey, and Jarred and Desiree Dailey; 10 great grandchildren; one sister and her husband, Cecelia and Robert Hall, St. Petersburg, FL; four brothers and their wives, Bernard and Elaine Michaud, Norfolk, Leland Michaud, Cameron Park, CA, Donald and Lois Michaud, Brasher Falls, and David Michaud, Athens; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah J. Russo Dailey on August 16, 1987; eight brothers, Kenneth, killed in WWII, Paul, Hugh, Joseph, Jerry, Ralph, John and George; and four sisters, Sarah Rogers, Mabel Sharlow, Mary Durant, and Theresa Richey.

Friends may call Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home , Massena. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Bernard D. Menard, officiating. Entombment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg.
