Mr. Elmore served in the U.S. Navy until the end of that war and then returned to AT&T. He was active, capable, constant and hard-working and he had a sly sense of humor. He supported his wife in all her public service activities, including service as chairwoman of the Chesterfield Social Services Board, membership on the Governor's Advisory Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect, and membership in the League of Women Voters.
In retirement, Mr. Elmore began a woodworking hobby with a friend and traveled with his wife, both for pleasure and to document family history. He was a member of the Bon Air Methodist Church for many years.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda E. Powers and Betty E. Pincus and their families, Linda's husband, Joe, and sons, David and Ben Powers, and Betty's husband, Sam Pincus, and daughters, Deborah Munson and Rebecca Davis, with their husbands and daughters, Tony Munson, Allison Munson, Damon Davis and Ryan Davis. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at The Hermitage at Cedarfield. Remembrances may be made to The Hermitage at Cedarfield, 2300 Cedarfield Parkway, Richmond, Va. 23233. Burial will be private.
