William Henry Myers was born March 31, 1900, at Morehead in Labette County, Kansas, the son of Stephen Andrew Douglas and Amy (James) Myers, and passed away at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 1972, at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 27 days.
Death occurred at his farm home north of Altamont on Rural Route 1. He had been bedfast since suffering a stroke on August 15, 1969.
On October 12, 1923, he and Naomi Cortner were married in Oswego. He had been a farmer all his life.
A former membership was held in the evangelical Church.
Survivors besides the widow of the home;four daughters, Mrs. Dale (Irene) Phillips, Dennis, Mrs. Esther Engelman, Cherokee, Mrs. Dale (Edna) Bamberry, Mound Valley, and Mrs. Mike (Wanda) Reed of Altamont; four sons, Ivan William Myers, Oswego, Ben Myers, Dennis, Lester Myers, Altamont, and David Myers, Mound Valley; a brother, Ben Myers, Parsons; 31 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a son, Douglas Myers, who died July 19, 1962, and a sister, Mrs. Etta Hinkle.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, at the Altamont First Baptist Church with the Rev. R. E. Ditlevson, pastor, officiating.
"How Great Thou Art" and "The Old rugged Cross" were sung by Paul Robinson and Miss Linda Carnahan accompanying him at the organ.
Pallbearers were Glen Carnahan, Gene Carnahan, Zora Coots, Phil McCrary, Ralph Gish and W. A. Darland.
Burial followed in the Harmony Grove Cemetery south of Dennis under the direction of the Sperry Funeral Home of Altamont.
