Born Salvador Anthony Yvars, he was a catcher for eight seasons (1947 to 1954) with the New York Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the 1951 National League Pennant-winning Giants' team, having the distinction as the final player to bat during that World Series. It was later disclosed that he participated in the stealing of signs from opposing teams during the 1951 season. In 210 career regulars season games, Yvars had 102 hits with a .244 lifetime batting average. (bio by: C.S.)
