Death: Oct. 4, 1899
Kings County (Brooklyn)
New York, USA

Col. Silas Titus, one of the original settlers of Syracuse, N. Y., died yesterday at the home of his son, S. W. Titus, at 602 Carroll Street, Brooklyn. His death was due to shock resulting from a fire which occured at his son's house about two weeks ago. Col. Titus was dragged out of danger by his daughter-in-law. Col. Titus was born in Cato, N. Y. in 1811. In 1829 he removed to Syracuse, which was then a mere hamlet, and later went into business there. He enlisted in the State Militia in 1829. When the civil war started he went to the front with the Twelfth New York Regiment as Adjutant, and was made Colonel of the One Hundred and Twenty-second New York Regiment. Col. Titus came to Brooklyn about a year ago and made his home with his son. He was prominently identified with the growth of the City of Syracuse, and was very well known in that part of the State. He is survived by one son. The funeral services will be held at the latter's residence this morning. The body will be taken to Syracuse for burial.
