| Birth: | Apr. 16, 1942 Lubbock Lubbock County Texas, USA | | Death: | Dec. 10, 2008 Lubbock Lubbock County Texas, USA | Carol Ann Pruitt lost a 12-year battle with cancer on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Covenant Lakeside Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Carol was born April 16, 1942 in Lubbock, Texas to Bernice and H.B. Virgil Crawford. She was raised in Brownfield and graduated from Brownfield High School in 1960. She received her bachelor degree from Texas Tech University in Home Economics and obtained her teaching certification in Special Education. While attending Texas Tech University, she met G. Dwayne Pruitt, the love of her life, and married on February 15, 1964.
Dwayne and Carol moved to Austin, Texas where Dwayne attended law school and she taught special needs children at the Brown School for Exceptional Children. In 1974, they returned to Brownfield where she taught for 28 years in the Brownfield School System. She had a love for all children that was unsurpassed by anyone. Her selfless devotion to enriching children's' lives has been truly inspirational to all who knew her.
Carol Pruitt drew her strength from God and her family. She was a long-time active member of the First United Methodist Church. She was always thinking of others and was the ultimate giver. She would joyfully watch her family open all of their Christmas gifts before opening her own. The day after Christmas she would start planning for the next one. She was a true life-long Democrat and women's rights advocate.
She had a talent for quilting, and was known for her "I Spy" quilts, having made over 65 for newborns of friends, family, and charities. She had a passion for reading and was a regular at the local library. Nothing made her happier than having her grandchildren sit in her lap and listen to her "magic" voices as she portrayed the characters in the stories.
Carol was survived by her husband Dwayne; her brothers Samuel Crawford, Joseph Crawford and sister-in-law Betty Crawford of Austin; her daughter Elizabeth Edgar and husband Jeff of Golden, Colorado; her son Michael and wife Christina of Phoenix, Arizona; her son Jason and wife Lisa of Amarillo, Texas; her beloved grandchildren Eva, Quinn and Talia Pruitt, Jack Edgar, Leann Shelley, Chris Bivens, and great-grandchildren, Halee Shelley, Avery Shelley, Colin Dicks, and Cash Bivens; her aunt, Eva Jane Griswold.
