Gonzales Inquirer Aug. 19, 1897
The sad news came last week that John Shuler, who once lived here, had died of slow fever at Victoria. He was a son-in-law of Capt. H. Tom, at Runge, and had many friends here who will regret to learn of his death. We have also been informed that Mrs. John Shuler also died at Gonzales last Friday . These sad deaths leave six small children without the protecting care of either father or mother, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to those whom this blow has left desolate.-Kennedy Advance
Mrs John Shuler is not dead, but is reported very low with slow fever.
