Mr. Pittman worked for the L&N Railroad as Foreman of a crew of workers who maintained the roadbed and tracks for a number of miles on either side of Edgemoor. I don't how many miles, but it was called a "section" and they were called "section hands." The railroad company built some houses on their right-of-way which these workers might occupy if they wished. The foreman's house was the largest, with 2-story and had 5 or 6 rooms, I think. I was never in it. The other houses (two, I think) were very small and one-story. There was no room at all around these houses for a garden or a yard. They were right near the tracks. Mr. Pittman and family lived in the foreman's house always, but some section workers lived elsewhere. The Pittman children were: Daisy and Estelle (both married and away before I remember), Harvey, Vesta, Guilford "Gib", Jim, Lillian, and twin boys, Elmer and Delmer.
