Murrell Smith, 93 years of age, widower of Elizabeth McHargue Smith, of Brodhead, Kentucky, and formerly of Livingston, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Rockcastle Hospital in Rockcastle County, Kentucky.
He was born on July 27, 1915 in Livingston, Kentucky, the son of the late Lloyd and Lela Arnold Smith. He had been a farmer who was a member of the Rockcastle Senior Citizens. His hobbies and interest include being a collector and Sports. On September 26, 1939 he was united in holy matrimony to Elizabeth McHargue, and from that union came five children- Doris, Deanna, Judy, Betty and Anita.
Those left to cherish his memory include his five children- Doris Smith Thompson of Winston Salem, NC; Deanna Bullock of Orlando, KY; Judy Smith Grimes and husband Tommy of London, KY; Betty Smith Barnes and husband Billy Ray Barnes of Morrow, Ohio; and Anita Smith Johnson and husband J.N., Jr. of Frankfort, KY.
Nine grandchildren-Sanda Miller, Keith Bullock, Kim Calico, Tommy C. Grimes, Pamela Elkins, Michael Barnes, Debra Rowan, Jerrill Johnson and Anissa Johnson.
Thirteen great grandchildren-Chris, Matthew, Mark & Dusty Miller; Elijah, Ashley, Sonia & Tonya Lunsford; Eric Calico; Crystal & Lauren Grimes; Joshua Begley and Katelyn Elkins.
Four great great grandchildren. As well as a host of friends and neighbors.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, infant Donnie Bullock, and a great grandchild Joshua Michael Miller.
Visitations were held on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals in Brodhead, Kentucky.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, December 4th, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. with Bro. Billy Medley, officiating; burial followed in the Piney Grove Cemetery in Brodhead, Kentucky.
