Win was born Albert Winchester Baum on 29 December 1912 according to his birth certificate at Vermilion County Illinois County Clerk Records Division. His name was shortend (or changed in common usage) and he was never known as Albert. His maternal grandfather was Albert H. Gibbs and paternal grandfather was Win C. Baum. He was a popular boy around Indianola and loved to race horses with his friends and schoolmates. He raised prize winning Herefords. Win eloped just shy of his 18th birthday to marry the love of his life, 22 year old Ada Ward on 27 August 1930 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He was killed on horseback in an accident at the Indianola Stock Yards after delivering cattle and a day of riding fences with his wife at age 21. Win's last words were reported to be; "Take care of my saddle" Win Baum was loved dearly by his sisters, Kathryn and Helen, his parents, Nora and Ches Baum, grandparents and family.
