Shirley Lee (Melcher) Cowan, was First Child of Three, First Daughter of Walter George & Martha Lily (Zessin) (Melcher) Wilson. Step-Daughter of Willard Bryce (Bill) Wilson.
Shirley was wife First to Gil ??, whom she met him when he was serving in the Air Force in Lincoln, married him and resided in Cincinnati, Ohio;
Second to Dennis Nagengast, whom she met in Lincoln, Nebraska, married on April 28, 1962 at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Lincoln, Nebraska, they resided in Lincoln and Columbus, Nebraska;
Third to Roger Cowan, whom she married on October 8, 1988 in Denver, Colorado. They resided in Denver, Colorado and Marquette, Nebraska. For a short time in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Huntington Beach, California while Roger was working on Bank Vault jobs.

Sister of Mary Ann (Melcher) Hubbard and Yhona Rose Melcher .
Attended Banking School in Lincoln in 1960, worked in the Banking industry all of her life in Lincoln, Columbus, Grand Island, Nebraska; Denver, Colorado, at Guaranty Bank where she was Auditor and a Vice President.
Shirley met her Third husband Roger when she was in charge of having a new bank building built and Roger was in charge of putting in the new Vaults.
Then at Union Bank and Trust, Denver, Colorado & Bank of Marquette, Marquette, Nebraska, where she was a Manager.
Her last job was Part time Front Desk Clerk at Holiday Inn Express on Belmont Ave. in Lincoln, Nebraska.
When she had free time she would volunteer at Hospital Gift shops and at Good Will stores.
She also enjoyed baking. Shirley enjoyed working with pottery. She had a pottery wheel and a firing oven, She made her own bowls, cups and dishes.
She liked to collect clowns and little angels that she hung on a curtain rod in her home. I was with her in Denver one time when she brought a beautiful Clown Painting.
During her lifetime she owed two wonderful dogs, Miniature schnauzers, named Jodi in the 1960's and Molly in the 1990's.
She was survived by Molly. Who resided with her son after her passing.
Shirley passed away at home (Old Post Rd) in the late evening. Her Half-Sister was with her.
Her third husband Roger Cowan precedes her in death.
Her son passed away 5 years, 2 months after his mother.
Cause of death: was a Second reoccurrence with cancer after a Thirteen year remission.
Lincoln – Shirley L. Cowan 63 of Lincoln died Monday, Dec 2 2002.
Memorial services will be at 1 and 4 pm Saturday at Wellington Greens Clubhouse in Lincoln.
There will be no visitation, her body was cremated.
Roper and Sons Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs Cowan was born Aug 11 1939, in rural Madison County to Walter G and Martha L (Vessin) Melcher.
Survivors of the immediate family include a son, Arden Nagengast of Lincoln; two step sons, Paul Cowan of Olathe, Kan., and Todd Cowan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Diane Hyde of Denver; Three sisters, Mary Hubbard of Denver, Nancy Patterson of Evans, Wash. And Glenda Rubil of Del Norte, Colo; and a brother, James Wilson of Lincoln.
Shirley is also survived by grandchildren, Kay Nagengast, Shaubin and Shannor Rubil, Megan Wilson, Emry and Caroline Hyde and Dan, Joe and Jessie Cowan.
