Evelyn K. "Evie" Lyon-Vaiden, 94, of Sykesville, died unexpectedly Monday, May 20, 2013, after a brief illness.

Born July 5, 1918, in Princeton, N.J., she was the daughter of the late George Frederick and Bertha Holzer Karch. She was the wife of the Rev. Arthur Lyon Lyon-Vaiden, who died in 1997.

She graduated from Princeton High School and then attended Rider College. While serving as the secretary at Trinity Episcopal Church in Princeton, she met and married her husband in 1944. His work took them to Iolani School in Honolulu, Hawaii, St. George's Parish in Perryman, and Christ Church in West River. They retired in 1972 to Ware's Wharf (Dunnsville) in Tidewater, Va., where they lived until his death in 1997.

She then moved to the Fairhaven Community in Sykesville in 2000, where she pursued her interests in gardening, music, oil painting and needlework. She spent every summer at the shore in Manasquan, N.J., with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, busy with furniture refinishing projects, flower planting, painting, reading and bird watching by the ocean.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Buck and Lynn Lyon-Vaiden, of Hampstead; daughters and son-in-law Nancy and Bill Riddell, of California, Md., Becky Frazier, of San Diego, Calif., and Lucinda Lyon-Vaiden, of Crofton; grandchildren Eric Frazier, Gretchen Frazier, Mark and wife Cassie Lyon-Vaiden, Rick Lyon-Vaiden, Rebecca and husband Marc Briere; and great-granddaughters Shannon, Isabelle and Chloe Briere.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29 Fairhaven, chapel, 7200 Third Ave., Sykesville. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 30 at Christ Church in West River.
