Mr. Sackett, 81, of Rochester, died Tuesday (Nov. 25, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital.
William Kelly Sackett was born April 10, 1927, in Spring Valley. He graduated from Stewartville High School and served in the Army during World War II. On Aug. 2, 1953, he married Arva Jean DeWitz at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester.
For 20 years, he was owner and operator of City Service, Gulf, Mobil full-service gas station. He later worked for Rochester School District 535 from 1977 until his retirement in 1989. In recent years, he transported cars for Clements Chevrolet. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge, and enjoyed hunting and fishing, bowling and golf, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jayne (Dan) Horst of Mesa, Ariz., and Anne (Rick) Wing of Rochester; a son, Pastor Jeff (Lisa) of Becker, Minn.; and a brother, Lester (Barbara) of Oceanside, Calif. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Andrea Horst, Jessica, David and Allison Wing, and Hannah, Emily and Colin Sackett; and two great-grandchildren, London and Lennon Barone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Loretta (Kelly) Sackett; five sisters and a brother.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, or South Santiago Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, Minn.
