Herman Joseph Rothove Dies
On the 25th of May 1922, Feast of the Ascension, Herman Joseph Rothove left this world, well prepared and blessed with the Holy Sacraments of the church. He was 72 years, 5 months and 4 days of age. The burial took place on the 26th of May at 3 O'clock in the afternoon from St. Boniface Church in Koeltztown with Reverend Joseph Wigger officiating.
On the following morning, May 27th. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Father Wigger for the repose of the soul.
Mr. Rothove came into the world December 21, 1849 in St. Louis. He received his education in St. Joseph Parish with a short college course.
In the year 1861 his parents moved to Taos (Cole County) on a farm now operated by Stephen Bode.
In 1879, Herman married Mary Toebben who died within the first year. On September 7th, 1881 he exchanged marriage vows with Mary Elizabeth Heet at Taos.
From this union 9 children were born. Bernard Rothove now living in Argyle; Henry – West Point Nebraska; Josephine died in 1888; Joseph of Koeltztown; Herman of Folk; Gertrude Wimmer – Beemer Nebraska; Lidwina Luebbert – Aloys Nebraska; Elizabeth died in 1902; and Andrew – Willard Minnesota.
He left to mourn his wife and children, one brother Henry of Taos. From the well known town (nursery) one sister Josephine Veit, Osage Bend. His parents preceded him in death. 16 Grandchildren.
The greater part of his life he spent in farming. First years at Taos, then 25 years on a farm at Westphalia. For 27 years he was district clerk of the Eicholz county school. For one term he taught in the school.
During his illness and last days of his life he and his wife lived with son Joseph at Koeltztown where he closed his eyes in death.
In this life as a hard working laborer he fought the good fight hopefully received the crown of life everlasting.
