Soldier - John Shpak, a resident here for the past 56 years and a retired farmer and coal miner, died this morning at his home. He was 85.
Requiem mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Holy Trinity Greek Catholic Church in Sykesville by Rev. George Lukaczyk. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery in DuBois.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Hazuda Funeral Home, Sykesville. The Parastas will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Mr. Shpak was born Oct. 7, 1881 in Poland, son of George and Eva Woleshen Shpak. He was married Aug 6, 1910 in the Holy Trinity Greek Catholic Church to Catherine Reijter, who survives.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Catholic Church.
Besides his wife, Mr. Shpak leaves five daughters, Mrs. Mary Nelson, Reynoldsville; Mrs. Julia Cicarelli, Stamford, Conn.; Mrs. Olga DeLuca, South Norwalk, Conn.; Mrs. Irene Suppa, Springdale Conn.; and Mrs. Catherine Gutkowski, Norwalk; four sons, John and Nicholas, Reynoldsville RD; Eli, Norwalk; and Ted, Punxsutawney, RD; 34 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Two sons preceded him in death.
