Birth: Oct. 3, 1744
Rhode Island, USA
Death: Jun. 15, 1829
Washington County
New York, USA

Son of David Kenyon (Kenyon ID 16) and Mary Sanford, he married to Elizabeth Rogers, 22 Jan 1767, Woodstock, Connecticut.

[His first wife Elizabeth Rogers was the sister of Jonah Rogers. She was born 8 Apr 1751 in Canterbury, CT, daughter of Josiah & Hannah (Ford) Rogers. (From Canterbury Vital Records.) Phineas & Elizabeth witnessed a deed transfer in South Kingstown, Rhode Island in 1773, and paid taxes in Exeter, Rhode Island in the 1780s. ~ Information provided by Neal Gardner Find-A-Grave member #47316673)]

Phineas was a Revolutionary War veteran, serving as Captain of the 3rd Company of Exeter, Rhode Island. He was also justice of the peace in Exeter.

On the 1800 Federal Census, in Easton, Washington County, New York, Phineas Kenyon is listed as head of household. There is one male and one female both 45 and over. This would suggest that this is Phineas Kenyon and possibly his first wife, Elizabeth.

On the 1820 Federal Census, in Easton, Washington County, New York, Phineas is listed as 45 and up, with a younger female (26-44) born between 1776-1794. This is likely a second wife, Elizabeth born 1780/82, who died in Indiana. There are 9 males and 2 females listed under the age of ten born 1810-1820. This would suggest that he married his second wife prior to 1810.

[There is an Elizabeth Kenyon born 1782, died 1853, age 71, listed as consort and widow of Phineas Kenyon, buried in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Elkhart, Indiana. This is the same cemetery that Benjamin F. Kenyon, believed son of Phineas is buried. Elizabeth Kenyon, age 70, born in Massachusetts is shown living in the home of B.F. Kenyon on the 1850 census in Concord, Elkhart,Indiana, so this would give support to the possibility that she was his mother, and thus she would be a second wife to Phineas Kenyon.]

Children include:

*1662 Franklin Kenyon, living in 1835.

*1664 Benjamin F. Kenyon, living in 1835.
*166a Annie Kenyon d before 1828, m Joseph Wells.
*166b Elizabeth Kenyon married Stephen Adams
*166c Mary Kenyon, unmarried in 1828.
*166d Jane A. Kenyon, unmarried 1828.

List of children from American Kenyons, by Howard N. Kenyon, published 1935, page 85.

Research of the children shows the following:

* Annie Kenyon, who married Joseph Wells, had son Phineas Kenyon Wells. There is a Find-A-Grave memorial #38625642 which shows he was born about 1785, died 1860 in Easton, Washington, New York. If his mother, Annie, was about 20 years old at the time of his birth, her birth date would be expected to be in the range of her brother, Phineas, who was born in 1765.

* Derrick S. Kenyon was born about 1813, in Washington County, New York. He was in Michigan in 1835 and died in Montana in 1899.

* Benjamin F. Kenyon was born about 1817, in Washington County, New York. He died in Indiana in 1871.

* Elizabeth Adams, born about 1810, New York is shown living in the household of B. F. Kenyon on the 1850 Census in Concord, Elkhart, Indiana. She is likely the daughter of Phineas, widow of Stephen Adams, and sister to Benjamin F. Kenyon. Also in the home is Elizabeth Kenyon, age 70, their presumed mother.
