SMITHFIELD, UTAH - Margene Thomas Bair, 77, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2008 at home in Smithfield from a lingering illness. She was born February 9, 1931 in Paradise, Utah, the daughter of David J. and Mae Early Thomas. She was raised in Paradise and attended the local schools, graduating from South Cache High School. She married Lowell E. Bair on August 17, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
During their first few years of marriage, they moved several times; living the past 50 years in Smithfield. Margene worked at Blocks Clothing Store for 17 years. After the Blocks store closed, she then went to work for the Boutique Women's Clothing store for 7 more years. She developed many lasting friendships from the people she became acquainted with through her work.
After Lowell's and Margene's retirements, they enjoyed their cruises and traveling. They had many good fishing and camping trips with close friends.
Margene was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various church positions.
She belonged to the Smithfield Civic Club for many years. She had many fond memories of the time she spent with them.
Margene will always be remembered for her unconditional love for her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Lowell, and three sons: Bruce, Richmond; Brent (Carolyn), Richmond; Robert (Julie), Smithfield; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews; and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister, Lavon.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Smithfield 11th Ward Chapel, 50 East 200 South, Smithfield.
Services will be conducted by Bishop Eugene Higham. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. November 18, 2008 at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and Wednesday morning at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services.
