Jordan Holcombe volunteered October 8, 1780 in Spartanburgh District., SC in Capt. John Lawson's Company, Col. Thomas' Regiment of SC Militia; served against depredations of Tories. Jordan Holcombe was paid by South Carolina 41 pounds for militia duty in 1780 and 1781.
Jordan's last years were spent in the family of his daughter Messina Adams Holcombe Brown, Gainesville, Hall Co., GA at whose home he died in 1846. He was buried in the family burying ground of his son-in-law Minor Winn Brown which adjoined the house yard. The Brown home site and burial ground was acquired by Hall Co., GA for the site of its county Court House and was so occupied for several generations prior to April 1937 when the Court House was destroyed by cyclone. The county authorities arranged with Campbell Brown, son of Minor Winn Brown (from his second marriage after the death of his Wife Messina) to move the remains of Jordan Holcombe and members of his daughter's Brown family from the Court House yard and re-inter them.
