WICHITA, KS - Fred A. George Jr., 71, of Wichita, Kansas, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born March 21, 1932, near Erie, Kansas, to Fred Sr., and Edith (Heady) George.

He attended Erie country school No. 8 and graduated from Erie High School in 1950.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict from 1953 to 1955.

He married Melba Sue Crismas on June 3, 1956, in Chanute, Kansas. She survives of the home.

While he was employed by Cities Service Oil Co. of Oklahoma, he lived in several states. He and his family moved to Wichita in 1964. He owned and operated two laundries and later worked for Jewel Tea Co. as a sales representative and Boeing Aircraft Co. as a machinist. He retired from Boeing in 1995.

He enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing, camping and attending family reunions.

Survivors include two sons, Terry George and wife, Lisa, of Oklahoma City, OK, and Tracy George of Japan; two daughters, Treasa Ferland and husband, Bob, of Wichita, KS, and Tina George of Oklahoma City, OK; five grandchildren, Jennifer Ferland and Jamie Ferland, both of Wichita, KS, and Brandon, Tara, and Marissa George, all of Oklahoma City, OK; one brother, Bill George of Erie, KS; three sisters, Freeda Pierce of Tulsa, OK, Janette Phelps of Independence, KS, and Janice Hazen of Holden, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hollis George and Leon George; and three sisters, Louise Brasier, Lucille Malson, and Dortha Johnson.

The service will be at Erie Christian Church with burial in East Hill Cemetery in Erie, Kansas.

Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie, KS is in chargte of arrangements.
