Booneville---James Rodney Counce Sr., 96, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. A lifelong resident of Prentiss County, he was born Dec. 15, 1911, to Hugh and Mattie Rone Counce. He was the owner of Counce Dairy Farm. He also farmed row crops. He served in the Civillan Conservation Corps, working reforestation effort in west Tennessee. He attened Booneville High School and Mississippi State College. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he was the senior member and a longtime supporter.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Pete McCoy and Dr. John Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Armstrong Counce; one daugther, Deborah Brown (Randy) of Lenoir City, Tenn.; two sons, Jim Counce (Judy) of Tupelo and Tommy Counce (Sharon) of Booneville; five grandchildren, Rod Counce III Regina) of Tupelo, Doug Counce (Eliska) of McKinney Texas, Gene Counce of Corinth, Joel Counce of Booneville and Lin Mann (Ezra) of Pine Bluff, Ark; nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and Glen Boyd, James Pruitt, Billy H. Ward and Curtis C. Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Visitation will continue until service time today at the funeral home.
