He wrote music for motion pictures during the 1940s into the 1960s and is most noted for B movies, which include "The Alligator People" (1959) and "The Leech Woman" (1960). Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was educated at the Providence College of Music. After serving in the United States Army Signal Corps. during World War II, Gertz began his career with Columbia Pictures where he composed, conducted and served as a musical director. Among his other film credits are "The Counterfeiters" (1948), "The Long Wait" (1954), "Kentucky Rifle" (1956), "Plunder Road" (1957), "The Fiercest Heart" (1961), "Brushfire" (1962), "Fluffy" (1965) and "Nobody's Perfect" (1968). During the 1960s, he wrote music for numerous television programs including "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", "The Invaders" and "Land of the Giants". (bio by: C.S.)
