Former Teacher and Commissioner Dies Services at Memorial

Arthur Francis "Frank" Cunningham, well known resident of the county passed away Sunday at his home near Laconia. Death followed an illness of heart trouble. The deceased was born in Jefferson County, Kentucky, on March 23, 1867 and was therefore 76 years, and 10 months of age. He was the son of Mr & Mrs Arthur Cunningham and one of a large family of whom two brothers and one sister survive. Dan of Evans Landing, Lonnie of Indianapolis and Mrs Mary B Sample of Laconia. He also leaves two sons, Wayne and Taylor of this county.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Laconia and conducted by Rev Everett L Jones of Corydon with burial in the church cemetery. Mr Cunningham served two terms as Commisioner of Harrison County and in early life was a teacher. He was an attorney and a member of the local bar here for many years. In his younger days, he made quite a name for himself with his race horses at the Harrison County Fair. A member of the Harrison County Bar for many years, Mr Cunningham had a wide acquaintances in this county. The Harrison County Bar was represented bty Judge Clyde R Lottick and attorney Sam P Vogt. Mr Vogt made a short talk at the church. Mr Cunningham was a grandfather of Capt. Cletus Cunningham, Army Air Corps pilot who was awarded the Silver Star last fall for gallantry in action over Korea in the South Pacific last August 21. Source: Corydon Democrat.
CORRECTION BY SUE ACUFF: My Dad was awarded the silver star for conspicuous gallantry in action while in the 5th Air Force for a battle over Pomelaa/ Pacific Theater (not Korea) on August 21, 1943.
