Son of Thomas Collings and ______ ________
Brother of:
1. Roger Collings
2. Thomas Collings - grandfather of Delilah Frye Lawson and Sally Collins
3. Jeremiah Collings - grandfather of Jeremiah Collins
4. John Collings - grandfather of Parthena C. Overby and great grandfather of Daniel Marion Collins, Lucy Ann C. Holt, and etc...
Husband of (1) Lydia* ________ & (2) Martha (Nunn) Collings
Marriage Date: 21 Jan 1827
County: Patrick
State: Virginia
Father of: (not already linked below)
1. Mary (Collins) - mother of Dida C. Overby
2. William Collins, Jr.
3. Lydia (Collings) Uptegrove** mother of Lidia Jane (Uptygrove) Butler
4. Polly (Collins) McKinney
5. Unknown Collins - grandfather of John William Collins, George W. Collins, James Madison Collins, Eliza Jane C. Beasley, Mildred C. Dillon, and etc...
*Some "researchers" assert that William's wife was Martha Snell...because they saw it on the internet. There was a William Collings who married a Martha Snell, in a neighboring county and contemporary to our William Collings. Apparently being close is good enough to base one's entire pedigree. Please show me proof that this oft-cited marriage is referring to our William. Lydia is the name of his first wife, as cited on court records from one of her children. While it is possible that Lydia and Martha are the same, or that Martha Snell died, and Lydia was a second wife...where is the proof?
**(also spelled Updigrove and Updegrove. Derived from Opdegraef, which family was given a land patent by William Penn in the Philadelphia area. Some of the descendants of Lydia's in-laws, now use the short version: Groves. Those Uptegroves settled in Rutherford County, NC.)
