Wife of William H. Gassett and daughter of Josiah Hill and Sarah Jane (Underwood) Hill.
There are two CSA pension applications on line for Cassandra E. Gassett in GA virtual vault (Archives)..one for Worth County and one for Brooks County. She says her husband, William Henry Gassett, died April 17,1905 in Florida (burial location unknown), where he was living trying to find relief from consumption. She also says she was born July 3, 1824 in Macon County, GA but married him in Taylor County. He served in Co. D. Bonando's Company from Butler, GA (28th Battalion, Georgia Siege Artillery, Co. D.).
NOTE: The 1850, 1870, 1880 and 1900 US censuses show her birth to have been about 1828, 1838, 1840 and 1836; respectively. Her stated birth in 1824 conflicts with all census data.
